I’m still kinda sick, tired, stressy and taking the devil pills which make me wonky (among other things), so I just didn’t have a WTF Wednesday or DFT post in me this week.
But a few people have been concerned because I haven’t posted, so I’ll give a quick update of the “not so good” (in lieu of WTF Wednesday) and the “good” (in lieu of DFT)
The not so good (because you know what? Life happens, even on Drama Free Thursday)
Something really yucky happened at work on Monday. I can’t even allude to what it is. It will be OK.
Apparently, there is a leak under my bathroom near either the toilet or the weird pipe in the corner is leaking into the apartment down stairs and damaging the insulation and interior walls. I have to spend my day off tomorrow waiting for the plumber and having my bathroom torn up (the losers my landlords hire take forever to do/repair/finish anything). I am concerned that it will require major structural work and that I’ll have to stay somewhere else (what would I do with BadKitty who is an indoor kitty?) or maybe even move, if they take the opportunity to redo the place (my apartment is the only one that has not been remodeled so it’s a possibility-hopefully the economy and holidays make them hold off) I can’t afford to move right now and my credit rating is crap from the divorce, so no one is likely to rent me a decent place, and I want to stay in my current neighborhood.
The “stay positive” side of me is doing battle with the “have a plan, a backup plan and a backup backup plan” side of me. I should know more tomorrow.
I did lose sleep last night because of this (and likely also because of the “devil pills” I’m taking).
I’m still a bit stressy from not being able to workout or train for the Seattle Half Marathon which is in two weeks. I may have to make a hard decision regarding that.
I’m still a bit stressy from the physical inactivity.
I’m sad for several friends right now; sick friends, friends who have had to deal with lay offs and friends who have made what I consider very self destructive choices.*but you know what? As my manager at the river guiding company in Moab used to say, “It’s not about “the flip”, it’s about how you recover”
(this refers to when you flip a commercial raft full of passengers and gear in a rapid, do you make excuses and freak out or do you rescue people, get the boat together and move on, learning from the experience and still giving the customers a good ride and positive experience?)
We all have “flips” from time to time and we all have the choice as to how to respond.
The GOOD
Tonight is the last night of taking the
I’ve read differing reports, but the side effects (dizziness, insomnia, cardiac arrhythmias, depression, anxiety, intestinal issues, yeast infection, danger of tendon damage/rupture of the Achilles) should go away in 24-72 hours (note to self, drink a ton of water). I should be feeling better by the end of the weekend and maybe I can train enough to do the half without injuring myself.
Last night, my friend Marian and I went over to the HUB for happy hour $5 pizza & cheap micro-brew. We’ve both had a rough week and it was a nice break from it.
When I got home, I got a phone call from Tom, who came out of the Enchantments a day early to avoid hiking out in snow today (weather moving in), so he’s coming over tonight for dinner and wine. I think I’ll talk him into watching a silly movie; that always cheers me up.
I got a screaming deal on the turkey for my Day After Thanksgiving Feast. I got a 22.26 pound bird for $6.01 at Safeway. They had a special that started yesterday, for a 17-23 pound bird at 27 cents a pound for Club Card holders (smaller bird were slightly more but still cheaper than cheap) The means more money for champagne !
I got everyone’s “Penguin Santa” (a cool race shirt and goodie gift exchange that my running club does) matches to them (difficult to get people who don’t know each other and to match up shirt sizes) out to them by deadline (Monday) and four of us have already mailed our packages out; (deadline is Thanksgiving) some have/will arrive by the end of this week (while I was typing this up, my recipient got hers). It will be such fun to watch everyone on the Yahoogroup guess who their “Penguin Santa” was by the goodies they get in their boxes (we send local treats in addition to Penguin and running themed stuff, but since it’s a “secret” we do weasely things to hide our identity, like ship from addresses not our own)
I ordered my photo holiday cards from Costco today. I got a great deal and I love the picture I chose this year. I will make a separate post about exchanging cards this year.
Even though tomorrow is kind of a wasted day with the plumber and all, it’s the beginning of a four day weekend. A four day weekend in which I’m hoping to start feeling good again.
Oh, and we got our holiday gift yesterday. They are some very nice trekking poles (last year was a fleece vest)
We had a meeting for the finance and corporate services division where we were thanked for all our hard work in a challenging year and were given our gift…

And with that, I should get my butt back to work; break’s over and I have a lot to do!!!
