Welcome to (a wet and wild due to flooding) “things that make me go Squee”.
After “cleaning out the pipes” yesterday by venting for WTF Wednesday, I'm ready to "squee with glee".
In honor of Pop Fiend’s attempt at decreasing drama for at least one day a week on LiveJournal by promoting “Drama Free Thursday” (for those who aren’t aware, my blog is crossposted to LJ, Blogspot, WordPress, MySpace and Facebook), I offer up my own “special” (in a rode the short bus kind of way) contribution, “Things that Make Me go Squee!!!
* Things that make me go squee!”
I think that almost everyone occasionally forgets to celebrate and share good things. I know I do.
So in the spirit of putting “good juju” out there, here are the current things that make me go “SQUEE!!!”
Although yesterday we were declared as being in a state of emergency for the 2nd time in less than a month due to the record breaking flooding we are experiencing (the last one was the snow and ice storms) I’ve only been slightly inconvenienced by it. I have a safe, warm, dry home. My friends and loved ones (four legged and human) are all accounted for.
I am so much luckier than those who have (and may sill yet) lost homes to mudslides, avalanches, floodwaters and looting, who have lost pets or livestock and who have not heard from all of their loved ones.
I am damn lucky!
As a matter of fact, I was pretty lucky during “Snowpocalypse 2008” in that I could work at home and walk (or snowshoe or ski) everywhere I needed to go. The icky boy only lives six blocks from me, so we got to spend a lot of quality time hitting each other with snowballs and taking long walks. I also got some good pictures.
I’ve been doing reasonably well staying active during the less than stellar weather. I even got a five mile run in at my favorite park between the snow/ice storms and thefloods.
I had a truly wonderful Solstice and two Christmas celebrations with friends. On the actual Solstice, the icky boy and I lit our solstice candles, listened to and sang along with the appropriate songs (“The Christians and the Pagans” and “Here Comes the Sun”) and drank wine in front of the fireplace on a snowy night. We had the formal observation a week later when the roads were somewhat thawed out. I served Christmas Eve dinner to 8 friends and then went to Molly’s to enjoy Brunch on Christmas Day.
The icky boy and I had a great time celebrating New Year’s Eve at First Night in Tacoma. The nice part about living within walking distance of downtown is that we didn’t have to drive with the lunatics or worry about parking, and we walked back to my place and arrived just before midnight where we could sit on the couch in our long underwear, watch the fireworks display/countdown at the Space Needle and toast the new year in warmth and safety.
I’m reclaiming the last bit of my life lost to the car accident. I had my first violin/fiddle lesson in over four years last week and even have a new (rental) violin. If I choose to purchase her, every dime I paid in rental fees go toward the purchase. She has a very unique, deep, sweet sound.
We’re still under flood warning, but the worst of the worst appears to have passed. We have a cold front moving in which should stabilize the snow in the mountains but won’t be cold enough to create another huge mess down here.Soon, we may have some post snowpocalypse/flood/holiday normalcy return to the PNW.
I’d like to say that it’s worth living here, even given how harsh mother nature can be here, but I am required (under threat of having my naturalized Northwesterner card revoked) “Do not move here; it rains all the time, the weather is terrible”.
We are a “different” breed here, and at times serious toughness is required.
And just to prove that, I present to you the “Don’t Come to Seattle” song.
It’s bloody hilarious!
the latest round of LJ rumors did finally get me off my butt to do a long overdue LJ backup and to finally create a WordPress Blog on my domain which I’ve been meaning to do for some time. I’m still playing with it, but so far I’m liking it..Lisa’s Blog on WildCelticRose.net
And here are little smilies for all the squees left unsqueed
And of course, the greatest squee of all…
I am blessed to have really GREAT friends in my life
Insert “squee” of your choice hereI wish everyone a happy and drama free Thursday, as well as lots of things to go “Squee” over.
SKA-WEEEEEEEEE
Now, I've got to get back to work, break’s over and after all the chaos of the last month or so, I am so far behind, it’s not even funny.

Mood: Gotta Squee
